Paul did not make excuses for his illness when he told the Galatians
Galatians 4.13-14
As you know, it was because of an illness that I first preached the gospel to you. Even though my illness was a trial to you, you did not treat me with contempt or scorn. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself.
Illness?
That is a novel translation. The same Greek word is here:
Rom 8:26
26 And likewise the Spirit also joins in to help our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes on our behalf with groanings that cannot be uttered.
If that is "illnesses" then do we all have to be ill before we can pray and receive help from the Holy Spirit?
Heb 4:15
15 For we do not have a high priest not being able to sympathize with our weaknesses but One having been tried in all respects according to our likeness, apart from sin.
Is Jesus sympathizing with our illnesses because He was tempted to sin?
Rom 6:19
19 I speak as a man on account of the weakness of your flesh. For as you presented your members as slaves to uncleanness and to lawless act unto lawless act, so now yield your members as slaves to righteousness unto sanctification.
Does this verse mean he was taking into consideration their "illness"?
Heb 5:2
2 being able to feel in due measure for those not knowing and being led astray, since he also is circled about with weakness.
Is He here circled about with "illnesses"?
Heb 7:28
28 For the Law makes men high priests who have infirmity, but the word of the oath-taking after the Law appoints the Son to the age, having been perfected.
Were all the High Priests ill?
It is true that sometimes the word designates sickness, but only as the context allows. There is no evidence from Gal that He was ill when he preached to them, or that it was "because of illness" that he preached to them.
