Quote:
Is it always God’s will to heal ... NOW?
No. It was His will that you be healed 2000 years ago. When Jesus took the cup, the will was made perfectly known and the will of God was fulfilled in the work of Jesus on the cross and the resurrection. There is no longer and question. It is finished. There is nothing left to be decided. Part of having faith it to realize this. Discerning the Lord's body means to know why the body of our Lord suffered the pains of death for us. The idea that God has not already decided and done all that needs to be done is a direct refutation of the gospel and completed work of Christ in His passion.
Quote:
Is God’s purpose ever served through illness? If not, why not?
Sickness tells you something is wrong. Faith in the Word is what fixes the wrong. The sickness does not fix the wrong, and the wrong does not need the sickness to be fixed. The wrong could be fixed without the sickness. Sickness is just a symptom of something being wrong. It is not the cure. In the end, whatever people imagine illness to be doing in their lives... it is still always and only faith that brings you to God. Sickness does not increase you spiritual stature or maturity one iota. One thing and one thing only improves your relationship/fellowship with God: and that is faith that works through love.
Sickness has never saved a single soul, sanctified a single spirit, or made a single man righteous. It is always and only faith and that through love.
Quote:
Is medicine a miraculous provision from God (after all, he created the ingredients of medicine)?
He also created poison and uranium.
Quote:
Can healing through medication, therefore, be as much a miracle as, say, lengthening someone’s leg in answer to prayer (I always wondered why legs are always lengthened but never shortened)?
Many good people who do not have faith to be healed directly do have faith to be healed by medicine and medical practice. Be it unto you according to your faith.
Quote:
Why do proponents of healing-on-demand suffer catastrophic (and sometimes terminal) illnesses
Because they are human with failures, weaknesses, and sin.
"Healing on demand" is a straw man. Who teaches such a thing. What is taught is that everything that needs to be done to effect our completeness has already been done. There is nothing being "demanded" by anyone. It is "healing by faith in the completed work of Christ".
Quote:
It is more realistic and just as faithful to scripture to say that sometimes it is God’s will to heal immediately on request and sometimes it is not.
No it is not realistic because that is just not what is happening. The will of God was manifest and carried out on the cross. He is not deciding anything about your healing any longer. You are. If you accept the fact that healing has already been provided for all in the atonement then the immediate and individual will of God regarding healing is no longer an issue. If you have a question about the will of God, then you failed to discern the Lord's body and understand the settled word and will of God. The will of God has been settled. He has not decided on who will or who will not be healed for 2000 years. He decided one time... when Jesus said "if it be possilbe, take this cup away..." It was not possible, and He sent Jesus to endure your, my, and everyone elses sin and sickness. THERE ARE NO MORE DECISIONS TO BE MADE! The will of God was established and finished that day.
Quote:
Healing is God’s business, not ours. Our duty is simply to pray and say …
Thy will be done.
Yes...thy will was done in Christ. All things are ours. You have given us all things that pertain to life and godliness. All the promises of God have been made yes and amen in HIM.
