| The will of God concerning healing and health. | ||
(1.) Jesus tells us the will of
God in prayer.
Luke 11:2 (KJS) And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. This is what we are to pray. Question: Is there sickness, sin, or poverty in heaven? Pray that it be so on the earth. (2.) Jesus was the will of God in Flesh. He only and always did the will of the Father. He was the manifestation of the will and Word of God. Look at the manifest will of God: Matt 8:16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with [his] word, and healed all that were sick Luke 4:40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them Luke 9:11 And the people, when they knew [it], followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healingThere is not a single instance in the ministry of Jesus where he refused to heal. There is certainly no instance where He put sickness on anyone. These is no instance where anyone stayed sick for the glory of God. (3.) This same compassion for the sick continued into the book of Acts: Acts 5:15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid [them] on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.(4.) Healing was included as part and parcel in the Gospel. Isai 53:5 But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 1Pet 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.(There is an interesting tense change in the OT version and the NT version. Isaiah in vision is looking upon the crucified Christ and is speaking to the people: "with his stripes we ARE healed". Peter is looking back at the cross, and is (under the inspiration of the Spirit) saying "by whose stripes ye WERE healed". ) To Peter, the price for our health was paid at calvery just as the price for our sins was paid at calvery. (5.) Jesus included healing in His ministry, and stated that this same gospel would be preached by the church utill the end comes. Matt 4:23 (KJS) And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. Matt 9:35 (KJS) And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. Matt 24:14 (KJS) And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.(6.) James tells us to pray for the sick, and that the prayer of faith would save the sick: Jame 5:14 (KJS) Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: Jame 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Jame 5:16 Confess [your] faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.(7.) Healing the sick is a sign which will follow them that believe: Mark 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.(8.) In the OT, there is evidence of healing for all: Psal 103:3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; It would indeed be odd that the OT covenant would include bodily healng, health, and prosperity, and the NT covenant not! (9.) Redemption from the curse of the law includes redemption from all sickness, poverty, and trouble: Deut 28 lists curses which comes upon those who do not obey the whole law. This includes all the sicknesses listed and those not listed. Christ has redeemed us from this curse. Galatians 3:13 (KJS) Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that hangeth on a tree:This is by no means a complete study. |
